The Moment My Baby Reached for Me Before I Reached for Myself
Share
There was a night I don’t think I’ll ever forget.
Not because something dramatic happened
but because something small happened
something so gentle
it felt like a whisper from Allah reminding me
“you’re not alone.”
I was sitting on the floor next to the crib
not doing anything
just breathing through a moment I didn’t have the words for.
You know those nights
where your mind feels too loud
and your heart feels too full
and you don’t even know why.
My baby was lying on their stomach
looking at me with those big curious eyes
just watching me
quiet
soft
present.
I didn’t say anything.
I didn’t even look up.
And then
my baby pushed themselves up
crawled over
and put one tiny hand on my knee.
Just a touch.
Just a little “I see you.”
Babies don’t wait for explanations.
They don’t wait for you to be strong.
They don’t wait for the perfect version of you.
They respond to the version you are right now.
Research shows babies can sense parental emotional state just through breathing and facial expression
long before they understand language:

Their bodies react to our stress
our calm
our rhythm.
They’re connected to us in ways we forget about.
And in that moment
when my baby touched my knee
it felt like they were telling me
“I’m here with you… the same way you’re always here with me.”
That night I picked them up
held them close
and reminded myself that parenting isn’t about having everything figured out.
It’s about showing up
even when you’re tired
even when you’re overwhelmed
even when your heart is heavy.
Babies feel our presence more than our perfection.
And sometimes we need help
the same way they do.
That’s why I added tools to Babayloom that protect that connection
that make parenting just a little easier
a little safer
a little softer.

Parenting is a cycle of giving and receiving.
Sometimes we’re the ones holding them
and sometimes
they’re the ones holding us
without even realizing it.
And that tiny hand on my knee
reminded me of something powerful:
Even when we feel like we’re breaking
our children see us as someone worth reaching for.
